Class of 2017

Most interesting experience before law school.

I pursued an acting career, first in Austin, Texas, and then I moved to the “Hollywood” of the South, Louisiana. It’s a difficult industry to break into, but I’m glad I did it. It taught me to stay positive and persevere.  Also, the acting and improv experience really helps when you need to speak in front of your class or before a judge.

One of the best experiences I’ve had at law school.

For me, the most beneficial thing has been the number of internships and clinics and all that the school does for students to gain real-world legal experience. I’ve tried to take advantage of as many opportunities as possible.

Through the school’s mentorship program, I got paired with the general counsel for Kering, the parent company of all these sports and luxury brands like PUMA and Gucci. We had lunch a few times, and then he offered me a paid internship at PUMA North America. That got extended, and I still go to PUMA headquarters in Westford and to their Boston office each week. I also intern at the public defender’s office in Boston, where I’m preparing for some motions in front of a judge. I’m not sure yet which of these experiences will be my favorite.

Favorite class I’ve taken.

It’s a tie. First, it was my Negotiations class. That was a lot of fun, learning the art of negotiating and how to work with others within the profession. The way Professor Siegel teaches Criminal Advocacy, it really helps prepare you for the courtroom. He shows you how to do a proper direct examination without it being too long and how to craft an effective opening statement that communicates your theory of the case, how you intend to show that, and what the evidence will prove as well.

On Experience

My alumni mentor, a corporate general counsel, has been awesome. He has provided me with as much hands-on experience as possible, while being very respectful of my school schedule.
